Johnson-Pate Pork, Inc. is hiring for full-time and part-time Animal Caretaker positions at our sow farm in DeKalb, Illinois. We are a medium-sized family farm that operates an integrated livestock and grain operation in a positive and friendly work environment. Our sow farm has been upgraded to operate a group housing system that utilizes electronic sow feeders (instead of gestation crates) and larger farrowing pens, and has a brand-new employee break room and shower rooms.
Job Responsibilities
· Caring for sows and gilts by monitoring animals daily or feed, water, comfort, and health concerns
· Assist in caring for sows and piglets during the farrowing process
· Vaccinating piglets
· Assisting with processing piglets
· Assisting in vaccinating sows and gilts when needed
· Moving sows and gilts between barns when needed
· Pressure washing
· Routine barn maintenance when needed
Qualifications
· Be hard-working and motivated, and able to work well with others
· Able to work at least 1 weekend per month
· Animal caretaking experience is preferred, but willing to train candidate who is eager to learn
· Able to stand on your feet for a majority of the day & lift up to 50 lb. on occasion.
· Basic repair experience preferred, but not required
Compensation & Benefits
· Competitive hourly pay (including 1.5x overtime pay after 40 hours worked per week)
